Have you ever wondered how people get to become
millionaires? We know that some are born to it, and
others like pop stars that become an overnight success are
made by you. You buy their discs and they become
millionaires.
But for the man in the
street it’s a different story, unless he has money to start
building his empire it can be a slow climb, but it can be
done.
One way of course is to invent something
that every one will want and patent it yourself. Of course
unless you have an imaginative mind that won’t happen.
So how can you become a
millionaire without winning the lottery?
To start with you will
need patience, determination, and be willing to work. It
won’t happen overnight, but you can make it happen.
You have probably all heard the saying
“From little acorns great oak trees grow” and this is how you
must approach your quest.
Let’s just take Google as
a prime example. It began with two students in their garage
at home, it is now a multi billion or trillion business.
First of all most people
have something they are interested in, a hobby or such like.
Your hobby may be the same as what thousands of people do all
over the world, but that doesn’t matter.
Let us just take another
example. Jam is something you can buy in any supermarket and
is bought by millions of people, but not long back someone
came up with organic jam, its still just jam but because it’s
made with organic fruits its become a hit and you can find on
supermarket shelves.
So how can your hobby
make you rich?
I enjoy crocheting and
many years ago I worked in a hospital, I decided to crochet a
poodle for my young daughter, this poodle was special and
looked exactly like a poodle should with the ruffles of hair
on the body and tail and around the mouth.
Someone saw the poodle
when I had finished it and asked me if I would make one for
them. This snowballed and I crotched 15 of them before I began
refusing as I had enough of it. What I am saying is that with
that one poodle I could probably have made a lot of money if I
had carried on and maybe paid others to make certain parts of
it to cut down on the work.
At that time I did not
have the foresight to even dream of starting a business but I
am sure I could have done so easily starting with that one
poodle.
I am fairly artistic and
I have had many hobbies, here is another example, I began
painting portraits in oils, I painted and sold a few before I
had again had enough. My problem was that I got restless and
wanted a change.
I began writing and I had
some verses for Xmas cards accepted which paid well, then
short stories, I had one accepted and published in a magazine,
that also paid well but again, once I had done it and I wanted
to move on.
I began doing
competitions and I was quite successful at that as well I won
all sorts holidays, watches, money, and others to numerous to
mention. One prize I won which I had forgotten I had ever
entered came as a shock. A knock came on the front door and
when I answered there was a large van outside.
Delivery for Mrs White
the man said, I hadn’t a clue what he was delivering, and then
he began bringing loads of large cardboard boxes in that
almost filled my hallway. I had won a years supply of cat
food. Not tin food but those large cartons of biscuits. I had
one cat which now had biscuits forever.
Of course I narrowed it
down a bit by giving some away as I had no where to keep it
all.
I finally got fed up with
that and started on my next project which was making and
decorating cakes. I put a sign up in my front window and
before long people was knocking on the door to order my cakes.
I did anniversary, birthday cakes, wedding cakes and any
novelty cake you could name, and I had never had any training.
I just decided I would do
it and that was that.
I found I had a real
flair for it. Very soon I found that room was the problem, I
had a big kitchen but it was becoming choc a block, I also
took over the front room of my house.
I made money and finally
decided to buy a shop, my husband was always agreeable to my
whims so no problems,
The shop was successful
and I ended up employing three other people, I also taught
cake decorating at two colleges on certain evenings.
I continued with this for
a few years until I finally sold the shop and retired.
I have just been telling
you about the things I did to show you that any idea you have
could be the start of your business, do not be afraid to show
people what you can do, and remember that what you start can
grow into something big no matter how simple it may seem.
