Depression

Friday, October 31st, 2008

During a lifetime it is probable that everyone suffers from some form of depression. It could be triggered off by money worries, boyfriend or maritial troubles, and especially problems at work.

For many people these depressions lift after a couple of weeks or when a matter is resolved, but for others it can be a long and painful experience.

Depression is a form of mental illness and it can triggers all sorts of side effects. Sleeping is affected as usually the mind is alert, and worrying about the main cause of the problem keeps you awake.  During the daytime you feel listless due to lack of sleep and your worries seem larger especially if it is a work problem.

As well as the lack of energy during the daytime your appetite is often affected so you eat less causing your energy to be at all time low, this can also show in weight loss as well. You often develop aches and pains and these cause you more worry as you imagine you have heart problems or even cancer.

Due to the lack of sleep at nights you could find yourself napping during the daytime, watching a television program through to the end is a thing of the past as you fall asleep part way through. It can also affect your memory and phone or card numbers you use often could suddenly disappear from your mind. It is all part of the depression.

Your GP will usually prescribe antidepressants, these are not addictive like they used to be in the old days, usually you will come out of your depression in about two weeks and get back to normal.

Your GP can also refer you for counselling which may be needed, this can be a help along side the medication.

Arthritis

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

If you are over fifty there is a good chance that eventually you will develop arthritis, It can be extremely painful especially if it effects your back.

It can strike many parts of the body including hands, arms, and legs, which can make walking or doing jobs you normally do a real effort.

Children can suffer with arthritis as well as adults but it gets more common the older you get. An accident can cause its onset as well.  Exercise is quite important for arthritis suffers to stop the joints from stiffening even further, swimming or gentle cycling is good also walking.

Your weight can be a big factor, try healthy eating to regain your normal weight, and don’t go in for heavy lifting or moving large objects, especially if your back is the main problem.

Be careful stepping off buses or getting down steep steps etc, the jarring does your joints no good. It is a help to wear shoes with a thick sole as they can act like a shock absorber to the pain department.

Bending can be equally painful, I have one of those grabbers on a long stick and it is a god send for picking up objects that have fallen.

Physiotherapy may be a help for you, they provide you with a gentle excercise routine, but pain killers help a lot just be sparing in the taking if possible.

I also have a tens machine from the pain clinic, it does provide you with some relief from the pain. A heat lamp can help as well, or even a hot water bottle but the electric pads that massage your back and provide heat are good, you attach them to your chair and it helps to relax you. Of course you can buy the chair that does the job, but they can be expensive.

Removing Warts

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Most people have at some time or other had those horible looking warts on some part of their body, I am not an expert in this but after trying some of the remedies given online with no success I decided to do what the doctors do.

I had one appear on my face next to my nose, it was black and unsightly and it really bothered me.  The doctor freezes it off and as the waiting list was long in that particular area I did what he would do with great results.

I bought Scholl freeze & Verruca & wart remover, it was about £13.99 or there abouts.  I just followed the instructions and  it worked.

It is a type of liquid that freezes the wart, you have what looks like a cotton bud and attach it to the bottle then let it drip down, then when the tip is soaked you apply it to the wart and count 15 seconds and walla its done. Its so simple to do.

It comes off in about four days and although there is a slightly light brown mark where was, it doesn’t bother me at all.

I have been looking at a few ways to make extra money and I came up with this. On this website people advertise the jobs they want doing from articles, SEO, video tutorials, page design, in fact everything to do with websites etc, plus some jobs that look too complicated for me.

The website is called www.rentacoder.com. you place bids for the jobs and if your successful you get paid of course.

You may have to undercut others to start with but once you are a successful coder you get recommended and you can place higher bids because of your reputation.

Christmas is almost with us once again and the list of top toys for this Christmas is out. Do you remember last year searching for those longed for gifts for the children it was almost impossible to find them especially if you are a late shopper.

Have you noticed how the top list of toys is always high prices, but still we rush out to buy regardless of whether we can afford them or not.

I went shopping this week and saw some of the top most wanted toys last year at half their original price, are we being fleeced?  Of course people are passing them by now, their kids don’t want what little Johnnie next door had last year.

So mom has to pass them by thinking of the money she could have saved if she just had the courage to buy them and say Santa must have got mixed up. or made some other excuse.

Its no use you can’t fob the kids off, they know what they want and if Johnnie next door is having one he wants one too even if you have to walk for miles to every shop before you find it.

I thought you might be interested in this scam, there is always something new coming up. This is from Google news.

Yolande Lehmkuh, 24, is devastated.

She was recently duped out of R7 000 after advertising her Nikon D40 digital camera on an electronic classifieds database.

Lehmkuhl says she placed an advert on Junk Mail on September 30. Two days later she received an SMS from a man we’ll call K, who indicated his interest in the camera and offered to make an electronic bank transfer.

She gave him the banking details and later that day he faxed through proof of payment.

Since he was using an FNB account and her mother an Absa account, they were advised that it would take three working days for the money to reflect, but she refused to release the camera until the money had cleared.

When the money had still not cleared by October 7, Lehmkuhl says she realised that she had been scammed.

“I tried to call Mr K on his cell and there was no answer. I left a message on his cell to say that we assume that he is no longer interested in the camera (because) there was no money transferred,” she said.

While conducting business with K, Lehmkuhl had received an e-mail from another person, whom we will call D, who had inquired about the camera. When the transaction with K failed, she contacted D, who said he was still interested.

Via e-mail correspondence, he told Lehmkuhl that he’d be using a bank-guaranteed cheque to make the payment.

She asked him what that meant and he explained saying: “A bank-guaranteed cheque is a means of payment which is convenient to use and easy to carry since it is a substitute for cash. It is just as good as cash because you can cash it over the counter at any bank.”

“So I replied to him saying that I will accept the bank-guaranteed cheque (because) a lot of people told me this is a pretty safe way,” she said.

She asked for a copy of his ID and work and cellphone number.

They arranged that D would meet Lehmkuhl’s dad at his dance studio in Meyersdal to make the exchange. But on the day, he sent someone else to fetch the camera with a letter explaining he could not make the meeting personally as he had “work commitments”.

“This person had all the documents with a letter from D apologising for not being able to make it. My father looked at everything and it seemed above board, so he handed over the camera,” she says.

She went to cash the cheque at an FNB branch in Krugersdorp, but to her dismay, she was told that the cheque was a fake.

She wants to alert people doing business through the classifieds to be cautious with their deals.

“Go with these guys to the bank and have them draw the money from the bank there and then. If you have a gut feeling and you feel that something is not right, rather take an extra day or week to decide on the sale,” she advises.

Eblockwatch founder Andre Snyman says fraudsters prey on people advertising items for sale in classifieds, usually contacting the victim on a Wednesday, promising a deposit by Friday.

“You see a payment into your bank account so you make the exchange thinking the money has cleared, but by Monday you realise that the money has been reversed and that you’ve been duped,” he says.

He relays a story about a woman in Kempton Park who had wanted to redo her kitchen. She found a man who came to her house and gave her a very good quote.

“He told her she’d have to put down a deposit and the balance of 50 percent when the goods were delivered and the other 50 percent on completion,” he says.

The men arrived at her house and they agreed upon a day, took out her old kitchen and brought in a truck full of wood.

They never returned and got away with her old kitchen and half of the total amount of the job. It was later found that the wood they had dropped off were offcuts.

“If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is,” he said.

Is the Credit Crunch Affecting You

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Is the credit crunch affecting you? If so its time to change the way you do your shopping.  Walking around the supermarket and picking up anything you fancy including all the top brands is plain crazy the way the prices are shooting up.

Its time to take a look at the stores own brand, most of them are just as good as those you pay top prices for. If your wary of trying them then just buy one at a time when you shop and try it out.

I have switched over to many of these stores own brand and although the labels don’t look so nice the product inside are fine. One big switch I have made is the stores own toilet rolls, it has made a big saving and they are great. They are just as soft and I have been surprised at how long they last.

Where I used to pay over £4.00 for a pack I now pay £1.49 for a pack of 12 and they last twice as long as my old type of toilet rolls.

The stores own frozen vegetables are just as good including many of canned goods.  Sauces that you add to bolognaise and various other dishes are over £1.00 but the store has their own brand for just 29p, just add a few spices and the taste is no different to those expensive sauces.

Give them a try and save pounds off your shopping bill, every penny counts in this day and age.

Conpetitions, Do you Win?

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Have you ever wondered! Do people really win all these hundreds of prize and money competions that are floating around the web?

Its a true fact that they do.

Some people spend days going through all the competions they can find and some spend a couple of hours each days.

A friend of mine does just that, he spends two hours each day just entering competitions and some of the prizes he has won are great.

Before I had a PC I used to receive a magazine called “Winners Friend” and I won loads of prizes myself including a holiday in a five star hotel for all the family in Tunisia. That comp was for canned Tuna fish.

An unusul prize I won was a years supply of cat food. I had a shock one day when upon answering the door bell I found a man on the doorstep saying he had a delivery for me. My hallway was jampacked with cases of cat food, I could have opened a shop with the amount they sent, I think they must have thought I had half a dozen cats.

Watches, cash, airmiles, were just a few of the prizes I won.

I finally lost interest in this past time but now I have decided to start again with  money and holidays as my main interest. I will put two hours a day aside and concentrate on those comps in earnest.

Souveniers

Friday, October 17th, 2008

I recently returned from a holiday in Canada and it makes you wonder what is going wrong with the countries and also realising why so many people are out of work.

We wanted to bring back some souveniers and saw some great items for sale, totem poles, mounties, and souveniers from Niagra falls.

Can you believe that upon looking at them we found that many of them were made in Taiwan.

Yes they were cheap, but who wants souveniers from Taiwan if you are holidaying in Canada!  It is the same every where you go, souveniers from Canada should be made in Canada and likewise every other country.

Maybe my thinking is wrong but I certainly didn’t buy Canadian souveniers made in Tawain.

Website Links

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Your website links are very important.  How often do check to see if you have broken links inside your own website?

Yes it is a chore but with Xenu its a simple process. I got mine free so you can do the same, just search online and find Xenu link checker, it will check your whole site and come up with all those broken links you never knew existed.
