Your website thrives on articles, as long as they are informative and interesting they will keep the traffic moving in your direction. That is why blogs are so popular, each day brings fresh content and if your content is interesting enough you get your regular readers and new ones popping in to see what you are doing.
Writing articles for other websites and blogs can keep you busy, webmasters often don’t have the time to spend on them or they don’t have the flair for it so you step in and make some cash doing it for them.
Have you ever considered writing articles for magazines? If you decide to look into this form of occupation then first buy the magazine and study it carefully. It is no use sending in articles on animals if the magazine is about gardening etc.
Are you any good at writing verse? many greeting card companies pay well for new verses, again you must know your market. Every greeting card company has their own type of verse so you would need to check out the cards of each one before sending your offerings in.
The same goes for writing short stories for magazines, study the magazine to see what age group they cater for and the type of stories they require. For instance the magazine called “Yours” is for the older age group so so you would not send them true romance stories.
An excellent book that is a must for authors is called “The Writers and Artists Yearbook” It lists all the publishers of every magazine, publishers of novels, and greeting cards etc. It also gives guidelines on how to set out your work, and what type of works they are looking for. Many will give examples which is very helpful and you will receive advice on how and where to send your work.
